Price:
Training rate is $500/month, including boarding, not including feed. You may either provide feed or pay an additional fee for ours.
We specialize in finishing horses, correcting problems, and starting horses on the barrel pattern. We do not take horses with less than 30 days riding. All horses are taught to work off feet, hand, voice, and body position cues, turn on their hind end, back, sidepass, pivot, rollback, execute round circles, pick up the proper lead, work on a loose rein.
When broke horses reach the above skills, they may then be taught the barrel and/or pole pattern. We will not start a horse on barrels or poles that is not broke properly to begin with. It is important to be able to utilize basic horsemanship skills to redirect horses as they mature in their barrel racing career. This simply cannot be done if the basics are not instilled before the barrel pattern is started. If you've ever ridden a "crazy barrel horse" that only knew to run barrels, you understand that if that type of horse starts knocking over barrels, running up the fence, etc., it is difficult to fix them because they don't respond to your legs, voice, or hands. We love barrel horses that can stop in the middle of a pattern if needed, or can be asked to turn sooner, later, move over easily, etc.. It is a pleasure to ride a really broke barrel horse. They are happy and confident horses and seem to enjoy their job so much more as well.
